5 Educational & Screen Free Toys That Will Keep Your Toddler Busy
Updated: Jan 26, 2022
Do you ever feel like you can’t get your toddler to sit still for more than 5 minutes? As a mom to a (currently) 3 month old and a 3 year old, I can’t express enough how many times I’ve needed my toddler to be occupied with something other than my phone. Our household has gone through quite a bit of toys in a short amount of time. I’m so guilty of walking through the toy section at Target more often than I’d like. But I’ve found 5 toys that keep my toddler busy and give me time to do whatever I need to get done!

1. Magnetic Tiles
My toddler is in love with magnetic tiles! What’s pretty cool is I get to see him be creative and watch him build something from nothing. I love to watch his facial expressions as he is trying to problem solve how to build his “monster tower” as he calls it. This is a great STEM toy because your toddler practices: problem solving, color recognition, gross motor skills, and hand eye coordination. Plus it keeps him occupied so I can fix dinner or do some quick cleaning.

2. Wooden Building Blocks
Does anyone else remember playing with these Wooden Building Blocks as a kid? This toy is timeless! It encourages hands-on play and kids can interact and connect through play. It encourages motor skills, social skills, and hand eye coordination. My toddler also started learning his shapes with this toy. He loves it!

3. Kinetic Sand
My toddler could play with this Kinetic Sand for days! No joke, when he was out of school for Christmas break, he played with kinetic sand for over an hour! I got to sip my coffee and finish it without it getting cold. I watched tv and propped my feet up! It felt so good. My son loves the way the sand feels on his hands and I love it because it’s a good sensory toy and reminds me of when I was a kid playing outside in the dirt or with the green slime they sold in the 90's. Anyone else remember those?

4. Montessori Quiet Book
This Montessori Quiet Book is so handy when you're in a restaurant, church, or just a place where you need your little one to be quiet. Another great sensory toy and they are even machine washable!

5. Pop Bubble Toys
You’ve probably seen these Pop Bubble Toys because they are everywhere right now! These will be on that list of toys 20 years down the road shared on some social media platform not even created yet and have all the popular kid’s toys that your child had when they were little. I see all the 90's throwback toys on Facebook and I get so excited! These pop bubble sensory toys are fun and also a great stress reliever! It’ll be that toy that your kid will say when they grow up, I had one of those!

These 5 kid toys are our favorites! They are educational (plus screen free) and keep my toddler busy so I can either get things done or my favorite thing to do…relax!
